Caruggi District
During medieval times, this area was populated by wealthy Genovese and successful guilds. Historic churches and 500-year-old buildings fence in the narrow, cobblestoned streets, known as caruggi, whose clusters of stores sell everything from fish to antique furniture. It's not wise to wander at night, however, as the area is also known for its thriving population of pickpockets and petty thieves.
